A Season of Classics & Contemporary Comedies

South Valley Civic Theatre( SVCT) is proud to be the nonprofit, all-volunteer community theater company serving the South Valley. With two performance venues, Limelight Theater and the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse, it is able to bring you seven productions each season, including four musicals at the downtown Community Playhouse and three plays at the smaller Limelight on Condit.
SVCT will launch its 58th season in October at the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse with their annual youth show The Lion King Jr., for performers ages 7-13. Youth productions, like The Lion King Jr., typically give 50-70 children the opportunity to perform, often for the first time, on a big stage and to decide whether acting is a passion for them. SVCT actively supports youth involvement, requiring no fees to participate and offering reduced ticket pricing for all audience members.
Next up at the Playhouse will be Irving Berlin’ s White Christmas. Inspired by the iconic 1954 film, this dazzling Broadway musical is packed with show-stopping numbers, heartwarming romance, and timeless holiday cheer. It will be exciting to introduce this unforgettable classic to contemporary audiences.
The third musical at the Playhouse will be SVCT’ s teen production of The Addams Family, a delightful comedy that embraces the wackiness in every family. Local teens pay no participation fees and are provided strong mentorship by SVCT’ s volunteers.
SVCT will close its Playhouse season with another familyfriendly musical, Disaster! A hilarious, 1970’ s-themed jukebox musical parody and a comedic homage to 1970s disaster films, this final musical will offer laugh-out-loud comedy.
Interspersed with the Playhouse musicals will be three plays at the Limelight Theater. Limelight by SVCT offers a unique, intimate theatrical experience, drawing actors and creative staff from a broad geographic area. Patrons are encouraged to come early and bring their own dinner or stay and chat in the Limelight Lounge where a full bar is available.
The Limelight season will open in October with Theatre People, a rollicking comedy by Paul Slade Smith, one of SVCT’ s favorite playwrights( Unnecessary Farce, The Outsider). January’ s production will be The Tin Woman, a poignant and heartwarming play which explores the power of human connection. For something completely different, the final Limelight play of the season will be The 39 Steps, a fast-paced, absurdist spy thriller( inspired by Alfred Hitchcock ' s 1935 film) in which just four actors play over 150 characters.
