Walk With a Doc: Building a Healthier, More Connected Morgan Hill Community

I n June 2025, Morgan Hill launched its own chapter of Walk With a Doc( WWAD), a nationally recognized program that brings communities together through free, doctor-led walks and health conversations. Organized in collaboration with Healthy Morgan Hill, the program was created with a simple but powerful goal: to improve health not only through physical activity, but through community connection, shared purpose, and social well-being, principles closely aligned with the Healthy Morgan Hill initiative.

Held once a month and open to people of all ages and fitness levels, WWAD Morgan Hill offers more than just a walk. Each gathering includes a group walk followed by an informal, engaging discussion on a health-related topic. From the beginning, organizers
emphasized that the program is about more than exercise. It is about building relationships, reducing social isolation, and creating a supportive environment where community members take collective responsibility for their health. Now six months into the program, WWAD Morgan Hill has already made a meaningful impact. Monthly topics have included nutrition, gratitude, guided meditation, preserving lean muscle mass, strength and resistance training, balance and proprioception, and the importance of movement across the lifespan. In November, participants shared healthy snacks and recipes while discussing mindful eating and practical nutrition strategies. In December, the group celebrated its six-month milestone by organizing a blanket donation drive, reinforcing the idea that health also includes compassion, generosity, and lifting the broader community.
A key strength of the program has been its adaptability and strong local partnerships. During the rainy winter months, 5th Element Fitness generously hosted the walks indoors, ensuring the program could continue regardless of weather conditions. This partnership reflects the broader vision shared by WWAD and Healthy Morgan Hill: engaging local businesses, community organizations, and residents to work together in building a healthier, more connected city.
