South Valley Civic Theatre:
SVCT Introduces Its 58th Season!
By Elizabeth Mandel
S outh Valley Civic Theatre( SVCT) is wrapping up another rewarding and successful seven-show season with the musical Groundhog Day, at the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse through July 12.( Tickets can be purchased at svct. org / 2026 _ groundhog.). Meanwhile, plans are well underway for SVCT’ s 58th season, opening in August with the rollicking comedy Theatre People at SVCT’ s Limelight Theater. Limelight is an intimate performance venue with seating for up to 50 patrons, creative use of the performance space, a full bar, and bring-your-own-dinner options. It is located near the Morgan Hill Aquatics Center.
The 2026-2027 season will feature three plays at Limelight Theatre and four larger musicals at the Playhouse in downtown Morgan Hill. As always, SVCT will offer a mix of beloved classics and more contemporary fare. This season’ s lineup will lean a bit more than usual to the lighter side of entertainment.
SVCT is proud to nurture youth interest in theater, with no financial barriers to participation. Following Theatre People SVCT will present their annual youth musical, Disney’ s Lion King Jr. Look for favorite songs like“ Circle of Life” and“ Hakuna Matata” in this wonderful theatrical spectacle.
For the holidays, SVCT will be pulling out all the stops with the iconic musical White Christmas! Show-stopping numbers by Irving Berlin include unforgettable classics like“ I Love a Piano,”“ Blue Skies,” and, of course,“ White Christmas.”
The Tin Woman, the second Limelight Theater production of the season, is a heartwarming play exploring the power of human connection. It is based on the playwright’ s sister’ s experiences after a heart transplant.
SVCT’ s annual teen production will be The Addams Family, a musical comedy that embraces the wackiness in every family.
Next up at Limelight will be The 39 Steps, inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’ s 1935 film, but with a twist: Four actors play over 150 characters in this fast-paced, comedic spy thriller about a social dandy trying to thwart the theft of state military secrets.
The season will close at the Playhouse with Disaster!, a hilarious musical parody and comedic homage to 1970s disaster films featuring 1970s hits like“ Hooked on a Feeling” and“ I Am Woman”.
