Visitors love the interactive nature of the museum. Among other thrilling favorites are the restoration and working-hangar experience where visitors can experience handson demonstrations during the tour. The museum’ s one-of-a-kind Propeller Shop is the only FAA-authorized wooden propeller repair station west of the Mississippi River, with some of the propellers lasting from the 1930s. Impellezzeri shares,“ Our propeller shop is one of the few places in the country that makes new propellers by hand instead of with automated machinery, which is part of what makes it so unique.” We’ re so lucky to have this hidden treasure in the heart of beautiful South County!

Next to the Prop Shop is their library, showcasing over 3,500 books, filled with anything and everything aviation. These fascinating reads include flight instruction manuals and biographies, many dating back to the WWI era, as well as DVDs and VHS tapes. Just like the rest of the museum, there is something for everyone. The library also has a monthly book sale every third Saturday of the month!
The museum just hosted their annual Food Truck Fly-In and Open House on Saturday, November 1st, where all visitors get in for free. In collaboration with the San Martin Airport, the event brought together aircrafts, family and kids’ activities, music, and of course, an array of delicious cuisines! They also have monthly events that can be accessed on the events calendar on their website( https:// www. wingsofhistory. org /).
And if that’ s not enough, members and volunteers are welcome to partake in special summer barbeques and winter parties. Who knows, maybe even Santa will fly in!
