Rebekah Children’s Services
First Spring Fling Fundraiser a Huge Success
REBEKAH CHILDREN’S HOME’s first Spring Fling fundraiser
was held in May at Old City Hall. They raised over $5000
and received a large number of baby shower gifts brought to
the event by the guests in attendance.
The event was a sell out and welcomed over 100 guests
who enjoyed a fantastic lunch, participated in baby shower
games and raffles, and were inspired by our guest speaker
Susie Sanchez, author of The Dream Lived. The event was
capped off by presenting the Kimberly Ordaz Award to a
woman in our community who possessed the same passion
for her own family and to other families in our community.
Corina Salazar was the recipient of this first-time award!
All of the proceeds raised from the event go directly
to Rebekah Children’s Services Adelante Family Resource
Center which provides services for over 3,000 families
each year.
300 Pound Vegan Addresses Benefits of a Balanced Diet
FORMER OAKLAND RAIDER defensive line-
man and current NFL free-agent David
Carter visited Rebekah Children’s Services
on Friday, May 20, 2016 at the invitation of
the Wellness Committee. Also known as The
300 Pound Vegan (300poundvegan.com),
Carter spoke to the students, residents, and
staff about his journey to better health when
he chose to embrace a vegan lifestyle. As a
child he grew up eating large amounts of meat
since members of his family owned a BBQ
restaurant. Later in life as a professional athlete
he began experiencing some health problems
and decided to follow his wife’s lead by trying
a vegan diet. While eating a plant-based diet
and eliminating animal-based products he has
noticed an improvement in his health and is
still able to continue the necessary strength
training routine of a professional athlete. Carter
travels the country as an advocate for animal
rights and a spokesperson for the benefits of
switching to a plant-focused vegan lifestyle.
