Housing
in Our
County
O
ne of the most frequent
complaints I hear is about the
lack of housing in Santa Clara
County. Most people would agree that
prices are too high and supply is too low.
While this seemingly intractable issue is
frustrating for some people, for others it
means homelessness.
To address the issue head on, voters
took action in November 2016 by
approving the County’s “Measure A”
Housing bond, which allows the County
to borrow up to $950 million by issuing
general obligation bonds to acquire
or improve real property. The funds
will provide affordable local housing
for vulnerable populations including:
veterans, seniors, the disabled, low and
moderate income individuals or families,
foster youth, victims of abuse, the home-
less, and individuals suffering from mental
health or substance abuse illnesses.
Housing may include supportive mental
health and substance abuse services.
