CELEBRATING LOCAL HISTORY
On Saturday, June 24th, community members escaped the
sizzling summer heat at Morgan Hill Historical Society’s popular
annual fundraiser à la Prohibition Party. Women in flapper
dresses and cloche hats strolled the grounds of historic Villa Mira
Monte on the arms of their dashing men in Valentino-style suits
and tuxedos. They sipped on Whiskey Sours and French 57s,
and danced to ‘20s and ‘30s hits performed by the Zinfandel
Stompers. The event was sponsored through the generous sup-
port of Ladera Grill, Arthur Murray Dance Studios, and Morgan
Hill Photography Club. Event proceeds benefit the Morgan Hill
Historical Society, a nonprofit all-volunteer organization that
provides educational programs such as the “Stories from the
Past” video project. The Historical Society also provides weekly
docent-led tours at Villa Mira Monte History Park, Living History
Field Trips for area schools (grades 3-5), monthly History
Conversations at the Hiram Morgan Hill House (first Saturday of
the month), and Walking Tours of Morgan HIll’s Historic Down-
town (second Saturday of the month). Photos by Morgan Hill

LGBTQ PRIDE MONTH CELEBRATED
COUNCILMAN SPRING TALKS
The Morgan Hill City Council approved a resolution back in March to have the rainbow flag
flown at three different locations throughout the month of June in celebration of LGBTQ Pride
month! Over 100 people attended a short ceremony at the Morgan Hill Civic Center Plaza.
Councilman Rene Spring was the keynote
speaker.
In his address, he welcomed those
in attendance and spoke of the meaning
of GAY PRIDE and about valuing the
diversity that is humanity in all its varied
presentation. He went on to acknowledge
that diversity is not just about recognizing
our differences, but acknowledging our
uniqueness and individuality.
