“Our customers need a supplier that can grow with them. We need the ability to quickly ramp up our operations to serve new customers and new projects in order to remain competitive. We want to continue growing our business here in Morgan Hill. Our policy is to hire locally and to promote from within.” C esar Madrueno came to the Bay Area with his family in 1992. After graduating from West Valley College, he landed a job as a Quality Control Supervisor at Lucero Cables, then served for nine years as a Production Control Manager at Spineret. Cesar’s next move took him to Agilent Technologies, where he worked as a Quality Control DNA Microarray Analyst for over twelve years. Over time, Cesar began to see ways to improve manu- facturing processes, and wanted decision-making power to bring about change, so he started his own company. In 2007, Cesar co-founded Golden State Assembly (GSA) with his wife, who oversees the company’s finances. Their focus is the engineering and manufacture of high-quality specialized custom cables, harnesses, and electromechanical assemblies used by the automotive, energy, medical, electronics, and GILROY • MORGAN HILL • SAN MARTIN agriculture industries. Customers include Boston Scientific in the medical industry, and automotive innovator Tesla Motors. Along with electrical harnesses, Tesla is also buying superchargers from GSA. By 2015, GSA business was growing by 40-60% per year, which necessitated several moves. Along with operations in Fremont, they moved into the former Alien Technology building in Morgan Hill. Continued growth led them to approach the City of Morgan Hill. Because there was no facility available that was large enough for their needs, GSA is working with the City on purchasing an empty lot and building a new facility from the ground up. GSA also partners with Gavilan College which offers educational programs to prepare a new generation of electrical engineers. FEBRUARY/MARCH 2018 gmhtoday.com 37
