An Important Time to Stay Informed and Engaged

June and the new fi scal year is now underway.
The fi rst half of the new fi scal year is a busy one
with several important initiatives for the community to pay

NEW ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT WEBSITE
Increase to Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT)
Look for an increase to Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) to
also be on the ballot in November. TOT is a tax imposed on
persons staying 30 days or less in a hotel, inn, motel, tourist
home, non-membership campground or other lodging
facility. TOT is one of the four main sources of revenue for
the General Fund.
The City of Morgan Hill has just launched its new Economic
Development website ChooseMorganHill.com. The purpose
of the new website is to highlight our four key industries
(Innovation and Advanced Manufacturing, Retail, Tourism
and Healthcare) identifi ed in the Economic Blueprint with
the use of testimonials, videos, blogging and social me-
dia to grow business interest and investment in Morgan
Hill. The new ChooseMorganHill.com website is designed
to communicate specifi cally to businesses with links back to
the main City website for other City services, offerings, and
programs. The Economic Blueprint is available at

NOVEMBER ELECTION…
First Time Electing City Council Members by District
This November will be the fi rst time that Morgan Hill voters
elect their city council members by district. This is a change
from electing all city council members at-large. Now voters
will only vote for the city council candidates from/for their
district. In November, District B and District D will each
be electing a new council member. Residents can visit
the Morgan Hill District Elections Interactive Map and enter
their address into the search bar to learn which district they
are in. More information about the City Council districts

Cannabis Tax
After surveying the community on their receptivity to
allowing cannabis in the City, as well as a possible can-
nabis tax, the Morgan Hill City Council decided to put a
Cannabis Tax out to the Morgan Hill voters in November.
If the tax passes the City Council will consider whether to
move forward with allowing cannabis sales, cultivation,
manufacturing and delivery in Morgan Hill. morganhill.

LISTOS
Early this fall Morgan Hill will be launching the Listos
Program. Listos is a grass-roots disaster preparedness
program that is tailored to meet the individual needs
of the Spanish-speaking communities. The program
is delivered in a format that is both culturally and
linguistically appropriate for the target population. For
more information about the program and how you can be
