ublic libraries have come a very long way since
Benjamin Franklin and the Junto Club. The
philosophical organization started the Library
Company of Philadelphia on July 1, 1731 as the first
lending library in America. Their motto, translated from Latin,
states, “To support the common good is divine.”
Both Gilroy and Morgan Hill Libraries have upheld this
motto in their respective communities, acting not just as
centers of learning but as community hubs where people can
benefit from a wide breadth of onsite and online resources.
