gilroy Ostrich Farm B ack in 2006 when we launched T ODAY, we mused that someday we would run out of stories. This has not been our reality. We seem to have an unending supply of new and in- teresting story ideas. The Gilroy Ostrich Farm is one of those! Dan Nelson, an entrepreneur with his hand in numerous ventures is the force behind the Gilroy Ostrich Farm. Located on Pacheco Pass Highway east of Soap Lake and before Casa de Fruta, Dan has 36 gmh 113 acres that he hopes to turn into the largest ostrich operation in California. Currently he has about 120 of these fascinating creatures and is in negotia- tions to acquire another 200. Ostriches are flightless and the world’s largest birds. They are native to the African savannah and seem to acclimate well to our weather. There is something prehistoric about them and they are probably one of the closest animals to dinosaurs in existence.
