Uvas Creek Levee Rehabilitation Project
The challenge: Keep flood
prevention structures reliable
In September 2018, the water district will begin an
$8 to $8.5 million project to repair 1-mile of levee
severely damaged by burrowing animals, such as
ground squirrels, which have created a series of
tunnels and holes within the levee.
of the levee. The Corps’ latest assessment classified
and rated the levee’s condition as unacceptable. The
Corps determined the levee has been compromised
and requested the water district begin immediate
repairs. Once the Corps deems a flood control site
as unacceptable, nearby communities could see their
flood rating readiness impacted.
