ven though he’s an islander now, Scott Burr credits
his family’s agricultural heritage and his upbringing
in Gilroy for his love of farming and his latest
venture, Carta Coffee.
Scott was raised in Gilroy by his parents, Jim and
Jean Burr. Jean’s grandfather came to Gilroy in 1906 and
established the Conrotto Winery on Hecker Pass Road in
1926. The winery was written up in the book, “Early Italian
Americans of the West,” copies of which can be found in
the Library of Congress and at the Gilroy Library.
