Looking back on this whole ordeal, I now realize the way I
acted then was not appropriate considering what I myself
had gone through. Throwing my own past experiences out
the window, I silently watched-and failed to help others
getting thrown into the same situation that I had the misfor-
tune to live through. I left them to sink in the same boat that
had nearly sunk me years prior. I am ashamed now to admit
this riveting reversal of morals, one that upholds high-mind-
ed character under no light. My actions did nothing to reveal
the truth, as players of low skill abandoned soccer thinking
themselves as unfi t for the sport. They were defi nitely
not fair to all those concerned, as unskilled players were
stripped of their love for a sport while skilled players walked
unpunished for their behavior. Rather than build goodwill
and better friendships, my actions did the opposite, allowing
for an environment that did not foster sportsmanship or
uphold what it meant to be in a team. Finally, the way I
acted was not benefi cial to all concerned for obvious reasons.
It harmed unskilled players, bolstered negative attributes in
skilled players, and, of course, serves me today as a haunting
example of when the Four-Way Test could have been used to
make a decision leading to very different results.
