Off-campus, On-line Technology infrastructure and technology-enabled educational tools and delivery systems will be a signifi cant part of facilities design. Earlier this year, Gavilan received a $500,000 online education initiative grant from the state chancellor’s office to fund development of online degree and certificate programs in career education. The California Community College system will launch its new online college, Calbright, in October 2019. Calbright will offer online courses for working adults looking to “upskill” and qualify for more advanced or emerging job opportunities with higher income earning potential. About Dr. Rose Gavilan Foundation is Growing The Gavilan College Educational Foundation was established to fi ll the gap for needs that cannot be funded any other way, and to provide fi nancial resources for student scholarships, research and educational program development, faculty and departmental support, facilities, and equipment. Rose said of the Foundation, “We’re not used to asking the community to look at us, see us historically and what we can do, and support what we’re doing as we move forward. We have a strong board, community awareness and support is growing, and the Foundation is growing as a result.” At the time of this writing, Gavilan was a month away from its Centennial Gala Event at the Gilroy main campus. Referring to Gala fundraising goals, Rose said, “It’s incredibly gratifying that our event sold out early and we’ve reached our $100,000 goal already and more funds are coming in.” A stronger, more active Foundation will enhance Gavilan’s position as the community college grows and evolves, aspiring to new achievements in educational excellence. Dr. Kathleen A. Rose has been serving the California Community College system since 2002, with the past 4 years as Superintendent/President at Gavilan Joint Community College District in Gilroy. Previously, she was Executive Vice President and Chief Instruction Offi cer at Gavilan College for seven years, and held similar administrative positions at Hartnell College prior to that. Before her service with the community colleges, Dr. Rose was an Associate Dean at Chapman University for twenty years. In addition, she has continuously taught as an associate faculty mem- ber for more than thirty years at the undergraduate and graduate level in psychology and organizational leadership at a number of colleges and universities.
