the exterior weather proofing of the buildings. Leasing and tenant improve- ments could begin any time. While Sunil Patel figures he will never see a profit on this project in his lifetime, he is glad the buildings were not torn down and soon will be a vital part of a reviving Gilroy downtown. On the other end of town between Sixth and Seventh on the east side of the street is 7320-7330-7340 Monterey. Built in 1923 this complex was an auto sales center. Most recently it was home to Banning Upholstery and Frank’s barbershop. This building is not as far along as the others on the tour. However, the precarious URM brick wall on the south side has been torn down and redone. Inside the airy frame is awaiting finalization of plans. Large foundation trenches are ready for cement. KC Chang is the owner. He has plans for a convenience store, specializing in Asian foods on the north end and four Asian-restaurants in a food court on the south end. There will be additional parking in the back. Completion is projected for 2020. Some exciting things are happening in Downtown Gilroy! A special thanks to the Gilroy Downtown Business Association (GDBA) for setting up the URM Tours.
