ome wineries attract customers with promises of
fancy varietals and upscale environments. Mike
and Maryclaire Sampognaro, owners of Morgan
Hill Cellars, take pride in offering a uniquely
unpretentious experience at their winery.

“Morgan Hill Cellars is known for its sweet wines, which

other wineries frown upon,” Maryclaire said, “but which are
quite popular with their customers. In particular their black-
berry merlot and their cherry blossom cabernet sauvignon
are very popular, and easy to drink.”
The sweet wines are part of the mainstay of the previous
owners, the Pedrizzetti family, and since Morgan Hill Cellars
is one of very few wineries that make them, they maintained
them. “A lot of other wineries will send customers who like
the sweet wines to us,” she said.
