Meets Ameca

ast September our delegation of eleven paid a visit
to Morgan Hill’s newest Sister City, Ameca, located
in Jalisco, Mexico. While awaiting our flight out of
San Jose, I asked fellow delegates what to expect on this trip
to honor and welcome Ameca into Morgan Hill’s Sister
City program.
What would it be like? Would we find clean streets with
souvenir vendors on every corner? Would we witness one
of the many traditional Mexican festivals during our visit?
Would our goal of making personal connections be
rewarded beyond a casual tourist’s experience of Mexico?
Looking back, our group agreed that we were lucky
enough to experience something not only authentic, but
even better than we’d expected.
From the moment we touched down in Mexico, we were
greeted by our Amecan counterparts, who embraced us
immediately and treated us with a warm hospitality the likes
of which I’d never before experienced in my travels. They
were gracious hosts throughout our time in Ameca.
We spent three days learning about the people, history
and customs of Ameca; eager to bring that knowledge home
as part of our Sister City cultural exchange. We saw how the
Morgan Hill Rotary Club had served Ameca through past
