“ I still remember how hard the students worked and how thrilled they were for the recognition .”
She was recognized by the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce as their “ Woman of the Year ” in 2010 , an award representing her collective contributions to the community . And most recently she was named the winner of the 2021 Poppy Jasper International Film Festival Art Icon Award .
According to PJIFF Director L . Mattock Scariot , awards are presented at the festival each year to recognize achievement within the film industry , but also to the community

at large . The award is to be formally presented on the final day of this year ’ s virtual screening of the festival in April 2021 . ( Go to pjiff . org for more information .)
Scariot says Peters was selected because of her long-standing contributions to all mediums of art in the South Santa Clara County region and beyond .
“ Carol is so special ,” Scariot said . “ She is a legend in the arts .”
Scariot was a student of Peters at Gilroy High School , serving as the senior section editor on the yearbook committee that won the national award for its yearbook .
