In our last issue we had a great opportunity to showcase Richard Young , owner of Young Signs in Gilroy . Kimberly Ewertz wrote a great article you can find in our Summer 2021 issue online at gmhtoday . com . Our photographer Tony Scotino captured this image of Richard in his shop . In it , Richard ’ s bright eyes and infectious smile immediately capture your attention . As our story goes , once you get to know this successful businessman , proud father , and accomplished artist , you are happy you did .
Due to an error in layout and design , we didn ’ t do justice to this amazing image on our first try . And because we loved it so much , we felt that we needed to publish it again with a better layout to reflect the joyful spirit of this community icon .
Young Signs was established in 1934 by Richard ’ s father , Elmer O . Young , the son of a Chinese farmer who immigrated to Gilroy in 1882 . During his high school years Richard was recruited into the family business . Working alongside his Father he learned three important lessons : be a gentleman , be good to people , and always be loyal to your community .
“ I always remember my dad saying patronize people that patronize you , that ’ s what feeds the town . The Young name has been here in the sign business forever and people keep coming back from generation to generation ,” said Young , showcasing a smile that lights up his face .
We hope you enjoy this photo by Tony Scotino as much as we do . If ever a photo can make you smile ... or if ever you can find joy in another persons passion for life , we think this may be your opportunity . Check out the full story online at : gmhtoday . com
