market exhibits handcrafted products from local crafters. Years ago, the building was the sales office for the Filice and Perrelli Canning Company. The leftover sign decorating the store’ s interior creates inspiration for its rustic, utilitarian vibe.
With an emphasis on curating diversity and quality in their products, the store has over 45 makers, selling various items, some of the most popular being 3D printer figures, succulents, dog biscuits, and wind chimes. Makers use small or large shelf spaces to display their crafts, paying a nominal amount to rent space, while keeping 100 % of sales revenue.

When handmade meets heart, the crafts tell a story. One of The Cannery’ s most inspirational makers, HopeSTUDIO, sells products handwoven by individuals with disabilities. The weavers, who can build confidence through their craft, are given at least 50 % of all sales. Not only are customers giving back to their community, but they’ re also contributing to a mission where individuals with disabilities are recognized for their talents.
The Cannery’ s success stretches far beyond Gilroy.“ In the last week, we had two visitors from two parts of Germany,” shares sales associate Nancy Maciel. On the store’ s walls hang several maps with thumbtacks tracking customers worldwide. As owner Gary Walton puts it,“ It ' s amazing how many people come through this store that aren ' t local but are looking for something that identifies Gilroy.”
The marketplace has hosted“ Meet the Makers” events where customers can come in and connect with the people making the handcrafts they’ re buying. Gary expresses,“ There’ s a connection, where you spend your money makes a difference. Support your neighbors, support small businesses, and then more of that money circulates within the community. It’ s making the Gilroy proud of who they are.” Eventually, the shop plans to also hold classes where crafters can teach specific skills to people looking to grow their businesses!
The store is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11am to 7pm, and Sunday 11am to 6pm, at 7488 Monterey Street. Come explore it!
