ON SEPTEMBER 5TH , 2022 , THE POPULAR SEASONING BLEND ANDY ’ S RUB LOST ITS BELOVED CREATOR AND CO-OWNER , ANDY VIALE , TO CANCER .
IT WAS A HEAVY BLOW FOR A BUSINESS FOUNDED ON THE MOTTO , “ IF IT ’ S NOT FUN , DON ’ T DO IT ,” BUT ANDY ’ S FAMILY IS PROVING THAT , ALTHOUGH HE MAY BE GONE , HE ’ S STILL HERE IN SPIRIT .
When Andy and his wife , Lynn , first started Andy ’ s Rub in 2009 , they never imagined it would be a runaway success . Originally , they thought it would be just an online and boutique shop item , but as soon as they started selling it , they received a flood of messages from people telling them how good it was and how it went well with everything . The rub also helped Andy and Lynn with their side-business as caterers , for which the rub was originally created .
“ When we catered , we never advertised the rub . We didn ’ t want to do many catering jobs because we were both working full time . But every job we did , we got the next one because we had seasoned everything with Andy ’ s Rub . People really loved it ,” Lynn said .
Over the years , Andy ’ s Rub has won first place in Mercury News ’ dry rub contest , been on Amazon ’ s Best Picks list , and can be found in grocery stores throughout California and beyond . Lynn credits much of Andy ’ s Rub ’ s instant success to Andy ’ s effusive personality .
“ He had such a joy in living life , and he certainly expressed that to people . If Andy was running , he would start a running group . If he was golfing , he would start a golf tournament fundraiser . Whatever he was involved with , he just loved to bring people alongside him ,” she said .
The same way his rub brings out the best flavors of everything it ’ s on , Andy brought out the best in everyone he spent time with . His joy quite literally rubbed off on people , and the relationships he made helped ( continued ...)
