SVCT Wraps 2024-2025 Season
Theater Scene is Thriving in the South Valley!

The theater scene is thriving in the South Valley! South Valley Civic Theatre( SVCT) is wrapping up a very successful 2024-2025 season with The Prom— an award-winning musical celebrating acceptance and inclusivity— and work is well underway in casting and rehearsing the opening productions of the 2025-2026 season. In addition, SVCT has expanded its summer camp offerings for youth and is considering new ways to expose students to theater in the upcoming year.
SVCT is particularly proud of its role as an all-volunteer organization that contributes to the quality of life of our community. When recently asked( as part of a grant application) how much volunteer time was donated to SVCT, we calculated the annual number to be in the tens of thousands of hours, including cast, creative team, and staff participation in seven productions each year as well as board member and committee time. This volunteer effort enables SVCT to offer more high-quality productions( including youth and teen shows), for a lower ticket price than most of the Bay Area. Looking ahead, SVCT will continue offering performances at their two venues, with five productions at the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse and two plays at the new Limelight Theater by the Morgan Hill Aquatics Center.
Patrons who attended the Limelight production of Dear Jack, Dear Louise in January were treated to SVCT’ s vision for the new Limelight Theater, an intimate performance space where small audiences are immersed in an exceptional theater experience. The 2025-2026 season will open with the quirky comedy Kimberly Akimbo in late August. A second play at the Limelight Theater, slated for January, is the psychological thriller The Other Place. Expect creative use of the theater space as well as Limelight’ s traditional full bar and bring-your-own-dinner options.
The opening show of the season at the Morgan Hill Playhouse will be a youth production of Disney’ s Descendants: The Musical. This will be followed by the Tony award-winning musical Fun Home, a teen production of Disney’ s High School Musical, a futuristic romantic comedy Comic Potential, and finally the musical Groundhog Day, based upon the beloved movie.
