Snacks is a seven-pound silkie Yorkshire terrier with the attitude of a 100-pound pit bull . Formerly known as Mia , she is a recovering rescue dog who found her new and loving home in 2013 when she was unexpectedly dropped off at her new mom ’ s place of work . Her new dad — a seasoned empty nester , was not a fan initially . A six-year battle of wills ensued , which Snacks eventually won . In the process both Snacks and Dad gained a clear understanding of who the real Alfa in the pack was — Mom .

I family time during the Holiday Season !

My holidays were great until mom and Auntie Lynne got together . Auntie gave mom two new holiday jammies for me . One was blue with Frosty on the back . The other was green with the “ big guy ” himself on the back . I might have been a little “ fluffier ” than normal during the holidays , but these jammies made my butt look big . And , don ’ t tell dad I said this , but I looked like him in his skinny jeans . Not a pretty picture !
Mom lured me into the Frosty jammies and stuffed me into them . Honestly , I didn ’ t fight . I just kind of rolled over and played “ diva .” Then , just to humiliate me , she added a red bow . I ’ m so tortured . The photo below will prove my mistreatment . With my Frosty skinny-jammies , a red bow in hair , I am finally off to nap . What does it take to get some rest with these two ?
Suddenly , I sensed the humans were trying to escape . Popping to attention , I darted out the door and into the car . It was a trap .
The holidays are supposed to be a time of naps , food , more naps , and more food . Not with these two . They plot against me . No sooner do I hop into the car and onto my cushy car seat , I find some treats dad tossed in . Thinking I ’ ve got it made — workin it , workin it , grabbing those treats out of the crevices while jamming to streaming Christmas tunes . My life can ’ t get better . Then I sense doom . I look up as we pull into my Veterinarian ' s parking lot . Hold my treats , what the …
I hear the cries of furry friends . Panicking , I shake . I sink into my car seat , taking my best defensive posture , hoping mom won ' t see me . It didn ’ t work . She scoops me up , and just like that , we ’ re in a room , with a nurse , with … ah , warm hands .
Her calm , sweet voice puts me right at ease . She thinks I ’ m adorable , so I really like her . Her warm hands are gently massaging me as she talks to mom . Thinking this isn ’ t too bad , I notice those warm hands are getting a little too close to my … No ! Don ’ t go there ! She did . Awkward .
At least my temp was normal .
Dr . D . comes in and I ’ m feeling exposed . He inspects my hair and confirms to mom its an environmental skin allergy , likely from the squirrels I chase every day in the backyard . I ’ m not a fan of the little fleabags , so I chase them out of my yard . The remedy — a shot , flea and tick medicine , and baths with medicated shampoo every five days . No !
These people know I hate the water and shampoos that make me smell bad . I am also nothip on shots . Why are they against me ? Why can ' t I be dirty ? I like the way I smell . Mom should be giving the squirrels baths — not me .
Doc whipped out a very tasty treat . Someone pinched me on the butt , I guess it did look pretty good in these jammies . As I munched away , Doc gave me a pat on the head . Then mom scooped me up and we headed for the door . Lucky for me , they forgot about the shot .
Mom told dad — and I guess you should tell your humans — that flea and tick season is coming up . Pet skin allergies are very common due to squirrels and other little invaders in our backyards . The remedies aren ’ t so bad , and it beats being itchy all the time . I was tortured during the holidays but I made the best of it , and I did get plenty of food , rest , more food , and more rest . Just like it should be .
Gotta run !
