mushroom, and rice to the fork, popping that yoke en route to your mouth, and just try to prepare yourself for the sensational taste bud experience that awaits. We all loved this dish. It was my favorite of the bunch, as hard as that is to say.
Japanese Curry & Pork Katsu( Panko crust pork loin, curry sauce, served with rice, carrots & corn in a hot stone pot: $ 22). This was a“ wow!” and Deb’ s favorite. The curry sauce was so rich and complex it could have been a meal unto its own over a bowl of rice. The delightfully crispy panko crust encased pork was perfectly tender and juicy, and the carrots and corn provided fresh pops of sweetness. We all loved this little gem in a bowl.
Overall, the presentation was impressive. We spent several minutes admiring each dish. We truly marvelled at the intricacies of each offering, appreciating the artistry Janice and her staff created for us. We all shared and enjoyed everything together!
We continued with stories, laughs, and sharing about kids and grandkids, the community, and the many nonprofit organizations the Goldsmiths have been or continue to be involved with. Many are organizations we also support, including our nonprofit, One Giving Tree. Paula and Joel attended our very first fundraiser ten years ago, and have supported us and our mission ever since.

I love to ask couples I admire what their keys to success are. For Paula and Joel, it comes down to mutual admiration and respect. After 37 years of marriage, Paula simply yet eloquently shares,“ He lets me be me.” Joel agrees,“ We’ re pretty good about being ourselves and supporting each other, not expecting that you ' re going to be this way because I think you should.”
For anyone who is in a relationship and trying to be the best you can be for yourself and your significant other, you were just handed one of the keys to success. That’ s Paula and Joel. They give of themselves to make everyone better. These two are more than worthy of their own“ Quiet Giants” article, and you can be on the lookout for that coming soon.
We had to get dessert— for research. Again, the choices were tough due to a lovely selection of decadent options. We decided on the Key Lime Tart( Graham cracker crust, key lime filling, topped with whipped cream: $ 10) and the Strawberry Nutella Crepes( Fresh strawberry, banana, Nutella crepes with whipped cream, caramel drizzle: $ 10).
The Crepes were amazing! Paula and I worked that plate so fast I don’ t remember if the other two got to taste it. Her and I did get to try the Key Lime Tart, and wow! Delightfully fresh with an“ awakening” tartness juxtaposed against the soft sweet whipped cream to create the perfect flavor profile. I rinsed my dessert with a cup of Alehouse’ s house coffee. You know how sometimes you just find an amazing coffee at a restaurant? Yep, this was that coffee.
Of course we shared many more stories and laughs before wrapping up by comparing notes on the spectacular meal we shared. Thanks to Janice and Kaylah— who snapped a few photos for us and put up with us holding things up momentarily for each photo we had to take— we had a wonderful time and an amazing experience. This place is a gem!
Strawberry Nutella Crepes
Alehouse opened in Feb 2023. Kaylah started in Feb of 2024. We all instantly credited her with the popularity of the place. She gracefully deflected, sharing that the entire staff is amazing. And to her point, we agreed. Special prompts to our bartender for the night, Tatiana, concocted some amazing drinks. Kaylah also informed us that Alehouse offers local craft beers as part of their full bar, and a myriad of games including checkers, UNO, Jenga, Connect 4, and more. We need to get back there to play some games with friends over a few drinks and small bites.
The menu changes occasionally at Alehouse. However, you will find their most popular meals always available. The food, presentation, service, and the ability to take our time and go at our own pace were all key factors that combined to make this“ Dining out with Friends” experience one of the best yet.
Alehouse is located at 707 First Street in Gilroy. They are open 11:00am to 9:00pm Sunday-Thursday, and 11:00am to 10:00pm on Friday and Saturday. Reservations are not required but recommended, especially weekends. Call 408-762-2673. You can view their menu at: alehousebistro. com. Tell Janice, Kaylah and crew that gmhTODAY and the Goldsmiths sent you. Wishing you a delightful meal!
