Kane’ s mom, Cate, and his dad, Nick— a Santa Clara County Sheriff’ s Sergeant— heard the terrifying diagnosis of B-cell ALL leukemia. Kane was immediately thrust into a brutal medical whirlwind of bone marrow biopsies, blood transfusions, and intense chemotherapy. Seeking a creative way to rally behind the young San Jose Sharks superfan, members of the community group " Gilroy Rocks " began placing the first painted stones on the Hecker Pass trail in December 2023.

For 792 straight days, Kane swallowed daily oral chemo and braved endless hospital visits. Every step of the way, local residents, friends, and total strangers added colorful rocks to the snake, creating a growing physical chain of community love so the Carlins knew they weren ' t walking alone.
