What ' sCookin ' with Roast Beef

Unfortunately, there is one small problem... Her name is Kitty.
Kitty belongs to my Auntie B. She is large, dramatic, and operates under the deeply mistaken belief that she is in charge. Whenever she is perched on Grandma ' s lap, she acts as though she owns the entire property. When nobody is looking, Kitty occasionally attempts to swat at me with her enormous paws. I want to be clear: I am small, but I am not naive.
Fortunately, Mom always comes to my rescue. Every single time Kitty starts posturing, Mom steps in and tells her to behave. Kitty does not appreciate being corrected— she makes this known through a series of grumbles and indignant cat noises, which I find very satisfying to witness.
After that, Mom scoops me up into her arms, and that is, without question, my favorite part of the whole visit. From that secure spot, I look directly at Kitty and give her my very best victory face. It ' s a look that says, Nice try.
What Kitty will never know is my biggest secret: Grandma likes me better. At least, that is what I tell myself every time we leave— and honestly, I have no reason to believe otherwise.
As we walk home through Gilroy, past the Pee Mail and all the wonderful smells downtown, I can ' t help wagging my tail. It has been another perfect day. Tomorrow, Mom and Dad will no doubt choose a different route, but I will quietly be hoping it leads back to Grandma ' s house. And if Kitty happens to be upset about it— well, that is entirely her problem. Til next time...
Keep waggin '
