David Barrett:
School of the Blues
Written By Jordan Rosenfeld
David Barrett, resident of Morgan Hill and owner of the prestigious School of the Blues in
San José, has played a number of musical instruments, but none captured his fascination
more than the humblest instrument of them all: the harmonica.
The now internationally-known blues harmonica player and teacher can still recall the
moment at age fourteen that he was captivated by the instrument which he first chose
because of its “portability.” He’d seen the movie “Crossroads” featuring three renowned
blues harmonica players: Sonny Terry, Frank Frost and John “Juke” Logan. “Hearing blues
on the harmonica really grabbed me. Just the sound of the harmonica in the opening of
the movie was really haunting,” he told gmh TODAY.
