Point Lobos State
Natural Reserve
15.
Point Lobos State Natural Reserve is
located at 62 California 1 in Carmel-
by-the-Sea. It’s the ultimate destina-
tion for sightseers, photographers,
painters, and nature lovers. The
reserve is considered “the crown
jewel of the State Park System” and
is a popular spot for divers, as it’s
one of the richest underwater habi-
tats. The abundance of wildlife is
reason enough to visit Point Lobos;
seals, sea lions, sea otters, and
migrating gray whales are frequently
spotted. A small turn-of-the-century
cabin built by Chinese fi shermen
still remains at Whalers Cove and
has been converted into a cultural
history museum. A schedule of guid-
ed walks for the month is posted at
the entrance station. The museum
hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
