Graham Hill Road, in Santa Cruz. Enjoy
this re-creation of an 1880s logging
town.Roaring Camp is a heritage railway
with authentic 1880s steam locomotives
operating on a Redwood Forest Steam
Train excursion. Also available are 1920s
era Beach Trains to Santa Cruz. Activities
abound at the camp, including: Train
Rides, California Redwoods Hike, Chuck
wagon BBQ, Red Caboose Restaurant,
Gold Panning, Blacksmithing, Candle-
Making, Visits with the Town Marshal,
Old Time Photo Studio, the General
Store, Horseshoes, and Volleyball. The
Camp is open seven days a week, from

Located at 400 River Road, Salinas, the
zoo takes great pride in offering
sanctuary to many animals that can
no longer participate in entertainment
or would otherwise not have a home
or family. Monterey Zoo offers Daily,
Private, or VIP tours of its facility and
each affords participants a different level
of involvement. Safari Camps are also
available for children seven years and
up. Daily public tours are available seven
days a week at 1 pm. An additional 3
pm tour is available during the summer
months, June, July, and August.

The lighthouse is located at 80 Asilomar
Avenue in Pacifi c Grove. It was lit in
1855 to guide ships on the Pacifi c Coast
of California. It is the oldest continuously
operating lighthouse on the West Coast
of the United States and a fascinating
part of California’s history, providing
a unique perspective on life on the
Monterey Peninsula over 160 years ago.
The lighthouse is open year round, fi ve
days a week, Thursday through Monday,
1 pm to 4 pm. No reservations required.

The Lick Observatory, located at
7281 Mount Hamilton Road on Mount
Hamilton, is owned and operated by
the University of California. It fi rst
began operations in 1888 as part of the
University of California. Today, Lick
serves astronomers from all eight UC
astronomy campuses, and at any given
time, over 100 observers are pursuing
science programs at Lick. Lick also has
a mandate to communicate the knowl-
edge and thrill of astronomy to students
and to the public. Annually, 35,000
adults and children visit Mt. Hamilton.
The Summer Visitor’s program features
lectures by renowned astronomers and
welcomes visitors to view the cosmos
through the 36-inch Great Refractor.
Informational exhibits are featured at
the Main Building where teacher-training
workshops for K-12 teachers are held.
The Observatory is open Thursday
through Sunday from 12 pm to 5 pm.
