Luevano has spent the greater part of thirty years working for nonprofits like RCS and Unravel Pediatric Cancer in Gilroy . At one point , he moved to Sacramento to work directly with sports teams like the River Cats , the Sacramento Kings , and the Sharks , but even there he took positions that involved partnering with nonprofits to help raise awareness and funds through ticket sales and marketing . It was important that he always felt like he was giving back in some way .

Recently , Luevano moved to Rocklin to start a new chapter of his life as Sacramento State ’ s Assistant Athletic Director . It ’ s a bit different than his nonprofit roots . He now focuses on getting sponsorship deals for their athletics department . But it still gives him the same feeling of helping because he knows the money he brings into the program is giving students opportunities to succeed .
Luevano couldn ’ t have come to Sacramento State at a more exciting time . The college recently got a new president who ’ s very supportive of the athletic program and the department has been making big strides towards getting better facilities and competing with bigger schools . “ You can just see the success of the athletics department and the foundation they ’ re building here , and it ’ s fun for me to be a part of it at this stage ,” he said .
Although Luevano is happy in Rocklin , there are many things he misses about Gilroy . He took great comfort in knowing everyone there and being involved in the Chamber of Commerce , Rotary , and local events . “ I feel like Gilroy just has that generational community support ,” Luevano said , “ It ’ s been an established community for a long time and there ’ s a lot of givers and doers . You don ’ t have to look too far in the community to find people who are like-minded in that way . Everyone cares about the community and the kids .”
Luevano is confident that he can bring a bit of that Gilroy spirit to Rocklin . He ’ s already gotten involved in Rocklin ’ s Chamber of Commerce , and he ’ s been enjoying meeting people in the community , both through his job and through his younger daughter ’ s involvement in sports and Girl Scouts .
The kindness and support Luevano received from his community when he was young taught him that everyone has a bigger impact on each other than they might think , and he will always be grateful for that . “ Being proud of what I do gives me the opportunity to get out and get into those new groups and talk about what I do . I would not have that if it wasn ’ t for all the opportunities I ’ ve had in Gilroy ,” he said . He will continue to share that Gilroy feeling wherever he goes .
