S
aturday, October 27 was a day to be proud of the great communities
we live in.
On that day, Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley set out to trans-
form twenty-one homes and three nonprofits. Over 700 volunteers stepped
up and made our valley a better place to be. As part of the project, South
County Rotary Clubs took on two local projects for Rebuilding Together.
In Morgan Hill, Morgan Hill Rotary members repaired one home and
another home was sponsored by the Republic Family of Companies,
builders of the Sunsweet Project in Morgan Hill.
In Gilroy the Gilroy Rotary organized a group of Area Six Rotary
Clubs to repair two homes. Rotary Area Six is comprised of the noon and
morning Gilroy Rotary Clubs, the Morgan Hill Club, the Almaden Club,
the Hollister Club and the San Juan Bautista Club. Every year one of the
Area Six clubs hosts an area service project. In 2018 the Area Six project
was done in conjunction with the Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley Fall
project day.
Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley believes that everyone deserves
to live in a safe and healthy home. For over 25 years, the non-profit
organization has provided critical repairs and accessibility modifications for
low-income homeowners (primarily seniors, individuals with disabilities,
and families with children) and nonprofit community organizations. Each
year, more than 2,000 volunteers gather to transform homes and lives by
improving the safety and health of homes and revitalizing communities.
All work is provided at no cost to the recipient, with materials provided
through donations and funds from area businesses, organizations,
government and private individuals. Since its inception, over 32,000 local
volunteers have helped Rebuilding Together to improve over 3,000 homes
and facilities in the local community.
Local Rotary Clubs are part of Rotary International whose mission
is to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world
understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business,
professional, and community leaders.
Each Rotary Club takes on a variety of local, national and international
service projects to advance this mission of Rotary International.
