On a gorgeous Friday evening we headed south to San Juan Bautista to share a traditional Mexican meal at Jardine ’ s de San Juan Restaurant with our friends Piper and Brad Pluckhan .
Piper and Brad own Crossroads Back & Neck Care Center in Gilroy , where Dr . Brad DC practices chiropractic medicine , treating all types of neck and back-related conditions . His focus on spinal decompression goes far beyond typical chiropractic treatment . His methods have brought relief to many South County residents over the years , including both members of Team Sanchez . Piper ( MPT ) practices physical therapy , helping patients in all phases of their healing journey to gain strength and mobility , and manage pain . Together , they have created an integrated approach to spinal decompression and joint health .
The Pluckhans are longtime Gilroy residents , having raised two adult sons , Ashton , and Logan . Active in the community , Piper is a member of the Gilroy Assistance League , and both she and Brad serve as volunteers for various local causes including our favorite nonprofit , One Giving Tree .
Sitting on the veranda overlooking the expansive , succulentladen patio , we shared the western-facing view and enjoyed a beautiful sunset as we ate and chatted a few hours away .
Jardine ’ s is a perfect fit for the town of San Juan Bautista . Its Northern Mexico-American Southwest design and décor is exactly as it should be in the center of town , walking distance from the San Juan Bautista Mission .
Founded in the late 1970 ’ s by Artist Manuel Santana and his wife , Alicia , the iconic restaurant is still family owned . Manuel , who was named Artist of the Year in 2008 by the Santa Cruz County Arts Commission , designed and built the patio that has been home to weddings , parties , and celebrations of all kinds for nearly 50 years .
Of course , we took our own Roast Beef — our puppy that is . Jardine ’ s has plenty of outside dining and it is pet friendly . And of course , Mr . and Mrs . Sanchez took a backseat to our 2 lb . wonder dog , who mesmerized the Pluckhans .
We wasted no time getting into fun conversation over Jardine ’ s chips and salsa . A side of guacamole rounded out this traditional appetizer . Here we were , on a perfect evening , overlooking a beautiful patio , taking in a gorgeous sunset , and we were just getting started . A quick beverage order got this party going , and within minutes we had cervezas for the men , margaritas for the ladies , and water for the horses . Wait , we drove our car — I just got carried away .
