Implementing a " Full Body Yes " Mindset

In the fast-paced and often demanding world we live in , the pursuit of success and happiness has become somewhat of a universal goal . However , achieving these aspirations requires more than just determination and hard work ; it necessitates a holistic approach that acknowledges the importance of well-being and resilience . Scott Schute , the former Head of Mindfulness and Compassion at LinkedIn , has been at the forefront of promoting a mindset he calls the " Full Body Yes ," which not only enhances professional success but also fosters personal resilience .

From the Inside Out
The concept of the " Full Body Yes " is grounded in the idea of wholehearted commitment and engagement . It encourages individuals to bring their complete selves to their endeavors , embracing opportunities with authenticity . A genuine " yes " involves not only the mind but the entire body — a commitment that resonates at a visceral level . Feeling the yes from the inside out and not just as an automatic reaction that we haven ’ t given much thought to . Or that we think is expected of us as “ the right thing to do .”
One of the key aspects of the " Full Body Yes " philosophy is the emphasis on resilience . Resilience , in this context , goes beyond bouncing back from setbacks ; it involves actively leveraging challenges as opportunities for growth and learning . It encourages a mindset that views obstacles not as roadblocks but as stepping stones towards personal and professional development .
Furthermore , the " Full Body Yes " philosophy aligns with the principles of mindfulness and self-awareness . By being fully present in the moment and accepting the totality of our experiences — both positive and negative — we have the opportunity to cultivate a deeper understanding of ourselves and how we react to the world around us . This self-awareness forms the foundation for resilience , as we become better equipped to manage stress , make informed decisions , and maintain a healthy work-life balance .
Implementing the " Full Body Yes " philosophy requires a commitment to self-reflection and a willingness to step outside one ' s comfort zone . It involves aligning our actions with our values and approaching challenges with an openness to growth . In a world that often values productivity over wellbeing , adopting such a mindset can be transformative . So , how might you embark on a journey of " Full Body Yes ," where resilience and authenticity converge to create a life rich in meaning and purpose ?
You can start with a mini self-assessment . What are 3-5 commitments that you have said yes to over the last month ? How do you feel about each of them ? Did you say yes with intention from a place of joy and enthusiasm ( a full body yes )? Or do you have things on your plate that you feel obligated or forced to do ( an auto-response )? If any are the latter , I invite you to take some time to think about what thoughts , feelings , and expectations led you to say yes . Taking time to reflect on our decisions can help us to learn more about ourselves and can be an invitation to respond differently next time .
