Summer is here and the time is right to find sunflowers growing all around us ! Just drive around the South County and you are bound to pass by a field of beautiful , golden yellow sunflowers . Local crops vary from sunflowers for seeds , and those for decorations and arrangements . A common type of sunflower in our area is the “ Helianthus Californicus ” or California Sunflower . “ Asteraceae ” is the official name of the sunflower species . There exist at least 30 varieties in California alone .
We came across this sunflower field in East Gilroy on New Avenue at Leavesley Rd . Another nice field to view is on Masten Ave at Monterey Rd . Know of any other fields ? Let us know and we ’ ll get some photos and share the credit with you ! Enjoy the sunflowers all around us and enjoy your summer !
