sponsoring the treatment of one child a year. As treatment costs have increased, so have Rotary’ s donations. Recently, the club helped sponsor a Rotary grant that combined funds from Rotary International and other local Rotary clubs to provide more than $ 100,000 for the purchase of equipment for a new COANIQUEM burn center in the Chilean city of Concepcion.
The ceremony, which was attended by COANIQUEM founders, supporters, staff, and directors, began with the premier of a documentary film about the history of COANIQUEM. Following the film, the Morgan Hill visitors were recognized with the Distinguished Support Recognition, which is awarded to groups and individuals who have provided significant support to burned children and children with scars in Chile, Latin America and the Caribbean. Following the recognition, Dr. Rojas led the Morgan Hill visitors on a tour of the forty-acre campus, where they learned about COANIQUEM’ s ground-breaking holistic treatment methods, and spoke with patients, parents and staff. As described by Peter Anderson,“ We began to see what a large and extremely professional burn center this is. We were honored, surprised and‘ blown away’ to be a part of this experience.”
At the end of the day, the group, along with more than 600 very enthusiastic local elementary school students, attended the premier of a series of children’ s cartoons featuring the COANIQUEM mascot, a curious cat named Santi. The cartoons educate children and adults alike about burn prevention by showing Santi in precarious scenarios where children protect him from danger.( Continued...)
Rotary Club of Morgan Hill Celebrates 70 Years of Service!
This year Morgan Hill Rotary marks seven decades of dedicated service to both local and international communities.
Established in 1955, the club has grown to include over 100 members from Morgan Hill and neighboring areas. These members comprise city leaders, business owners, employees, and retirees who collaborate to address community needs and foster positive change.
